David Moyes returns to Everton as head coach following Sean Dyche’s sacking
David Moyes was re-appointed as Everton manager, signing a two-and-a-half year contract.
Everton, currently 16th in the Premier League, are in a relegation battle with just three wins from 19 games this season.
The former West Ham boss takes over from Sean Dyche, who was sacked following the Friedkin Group takeover.
“I enjoyed 11 wonderful and successful years at Everton and did not hesitate when offered the opportunity to rejoin this great club,” Moyes said in a statement.
“Now we need Goodison and all Evertonians to do their part to stand behind the players in this important season so we can move into our fantastic new stadium as a Premier League team.”
Moyes previously managed Everton from 2002 to 2013 and led the club to some of its best moments in the top flight.

After a successful spell at Preston, Moyes took charge of Everton in March 2002, taking charge of a team in danger of relegation similar to the team he has now.
He quickly stabilized the situation and led them to numerous top-eight finishes in the Premier League.
During his time at Goodison Park, Moyes led Everton to the FA Cup final in 2009 and secured fourth place in the 2004/05 season, helping the team qualify for the Champions League.
He also played a crucial role in developing young talent, giving Wayne Rooney his professional debut and signing key players such as Tim Cahill and Marouane Fellaini.
Moyes’ managerial career since leaving Everton has been marked by a mix of successes and challenges.
He succeeded Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United but struggled to replicate his predecessor’s success and was sacked as manager after less than a year.
Subsequent managerial positions at Real Sociedad, Sunderland and West Ham produced mixed results.
He achieved notable success with West Ham, leading them to two top-seven finishes and securing their first major trophy in 43 years by winning the Europa Conference League in 2023.
