In Star Wars, Darth Vader is widely regarded as one of the most dangerous threats in the galaxy. In addition to his mystical powers that allow him to kill anyone who opposes him, the Sith Lord enjoys a well-deserved reputation as the fierce warrior who helped wipe out the Jedi. This game introduced HK-47, a fan-favorite droid who loves nothing more than murdering people and Aliens who oppose him (for this death-loving droid, all biological beings are merely “bags of meat”). Later HK-47 was brought back Trials against Obi-Wan Expansion that added the planet Mustafar and over 50 quests to the classic MMORPG Star Wars galaxies.
What does that have to do with anything? Darth Vader But save the galaxy? Before arriving on Mustafar for his epic battle with former mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi, Star Wars galaxies claims that Separtist scientists discovered HK-47’s remains and were both horrified and impressed by the droid’s ability to kill anything (both droid and organic) that stood in its way during its reactivation. By taking control of the droid’s mind (they failed to successfully erase its memory), the scientists stole its chassis and developed an HK-77 droid that was more advanced than anything the Jedi had ever encountered in the predecessors had.
These same scientists were preparing to mass-produce these more advanced droids, and that might have been enough to turn the tide of the Clone Wars and allow the Separatists to defeat the Old Republic once and for all. However, the fate of these Separatists was sealed when Palpatine told the young Anakin Skywalker that the leaders of the Confederacy of Independent Systems were hiding on Mustafar. Now christened Darth Vader, the angry warrior slaughtered these leaders before fighting Obi-Wan Kenobi, effectively halting HK-77 production and effectively saving the galaxy.
A lost galaxy
Unfortunately, Star Wars galaxies many years ago and has been closed ever since Disney When we acquired the franchise, all of these old stories were removed from canon and relegated to “Legends” status. In Chuck Wendig’s book Aftermath: The End of the Empirethe droid character Mister Bones makes a mistake at one point and says, “COMMENT: I say we blow up the meat bag and save you the trouble, master.” This is a echo about how HK-47 spoke in the Knights of the Old Republic games, although whether this is simply an Easter egg or a confirmation that the assassin droid’s programming is officially up to fans’ interpretation is left up to fans’ interpretation lives on from years later.
For Star Wars fans tired of the Disney era and the misfires of the sequel trilogy, the story of Darth Vader accidentally saving the galaxy is a pleasant throwback to the days of the expanded universe. Back then, talented authors found increasingly innovative ways to connect our favorite characters and stories. These days, however, we have to settle for being impressed when Disney can deliver a single series (Hello, Skeleton crew), who manages not to bed Sith, and that makes this particular meatbag infinitely sad Years of lost creative potential for the most popular science fiction franchise.
