Cross-border trade will resume in Sebta and Melilia
Local media reports that trade in goods between passengers from Sebta and Melilia resumed on Wednesday and Thursday. For the first time in six years, freight trucks crossed the two cities on these two days, marking the beginning of the normalization of cross-border trade.
“Today goods were transported from Melilla to Morocco through the commercial customs. This is another step towards normalizing border and trade customs.”announced on Wednesday on the X network the delegate of the Spanish government (prefect) in Melilla, Sabrina Moh.
Morocco closed trade tariffs with Melilla in 2018 amid diplomatic tensions. Sebtaa, on the other hand, did not previously have a customs office for the transit of goods: until then, only people and private vehicles were actually allowed to pass through. But on Thursday a commercial customs office was inaugurated there with the passage of the first goods truck.
