Morocco, which takes over the presidency of the Peace and Security Council (CPS) of the African Union (Au) for Mars, pleaded in Addis Ababa for strengthening the role of the group of wise men on Tuesday. The ambassador Mohamed Aruchi insisted that the group’s mandate had to be clarified in terms of prevention and mediation by strengthening its ability to advise the CPS.
Morocco has also highlighted the importance of a stable budget and solid partnerships with public and private actors to support the group’s missions. The development of mediation and negotiation skills and the need for strategic surveillance thanks to the Continental Alert System (CEWS) was underlined.
The diplomat called for increased coordination with the regional economic communities (CER) and civil society for a measures adapted to the field. He also emphasized how important it is to improve communication through group activities in order to strengthen his credibility.
Finally, Morocco insisted on the implementation of performance assessment mechanisms in order to optimize the effects of interventions and strengthen the efficiency of conflict prevention missions.
