Cooperation in the mining sector: Benali reaffirms Morocco’s commitment to Riyadh

Energy Transition and Sustainable Development Minister Leila Benali reiterated Morocco’s commitment to supporting regional and international cooperation in the field of mining on Tuesday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Opening the 4th International Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Mining Affairs, she noted that all eyes are currently on the African continent, which is full of mineral resources that developers need in their processing industries, stressing the need to make this contribution Morocco works with full respect for social rights and labor laws, particularly in relation to the exploitation of children.

The minister noted that the world needs to adapt sustainable mining practices and use mineral resources responsibly to meet the demands of the global energy transition. She reiterated Morocco’s willingness to strengthen cooperation with all international partners and work to transform challenges into investment opportunities, noting the importance of coordinating efforts to develop and maintain mineral value chains and ensure their sustainability .

On the sidelines of this meeting, Benali notably had a meeting with India’s Kishan Reddy, the Union Minister for Coal and Mines. The two discussed strengthening India-Morocco ties and explored cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including sustainability and renewable energy.
