“Champions League would be incredible”

Nottingham Forest’s qualification for the Champions League would be “absolutely incredible”, said captain Morgan Gibbs-White after they finished level on points with Arsenal in the Premier League.

Gibbs-White scored against his former club Wolves as Forest won 3-0 to take their sixth straight game to 40 points.

They are six points behind leaders Liverpool, who they host next week, and look well placed to seriously challenge for a place in the top four.

The victory at Molineux marked the 50th anniversary of the appointment of Brian Clough, who won two European Cups with Forest in 1979 and 1980.

Forest have appeared in the UEFA Cup three times since winning the trophy, but never in the Champions League.

“It would be absolutely incredible,” Gibbs-White said. “There will be a few fans who might get to experience it twice.

“Being able to give them this chance again is what we really want as a club.

“The owner believes in it, we believe in it. We just have to take it game by game and not get ahead of ourselves. Stay calm and stay humble.”

“The city will be happy”

Coach Nuno Espirito Santo smiled after the win over his former team – but said they had not achieved anything yet.

He said: “We haven’t achieved anything yet, we have to work until the end and that can lead us to good moments.”

“My ambition is always the same. As a coaching staff we have a natural ambition to improve the players, that’s what we’re obsessed with.

“If we improve the players, the team will improve, and if the team improves, the club will improve and the city will be happy.”
