CES 2025: New laptops, gaming PCs from Asus, Dell, Lenovo and HP
CNET got a first look at some of the biggest PC product announcements at CES 2025 in Las Vegas.
CES is here and Dell, Lenovo, Asus and HP all made their announcements at the Big Electronics Show in Las Vegas, but before the show we got a few sneak peeks at their laptops and desktops coming in 2025 in New York come to market, and that includes their gaming brands. So let’s see what’s next from them. Before I delve deeper, keep in mind that we saw all of this before CES even started. So there’s a good chance that these PC makers and others will make announcements at the show that we simply didn’t see. Again, these aren’t in-depth looks and pricing and availability weren’t specific, but we wanted to give you an overview of what’s in store this year. So I’m just going to go with Dell, and strangely enough the biggest announcement isn’t a product, but rather name changes. Dell is giving up the names of its PC lines. Like the XPS Insperon, Latitude, and Precision, all with simple, straightforward names: Dell for consumer models, Dell Pro for commercial productivity, and Dell Pro Max for high-performance commercial systems and workstations. And within these there are Plus and Premium models. For example, if you’re familiar with Dell’s high-end XPS lineup, a 14-inch laptop in that lineup is now called the Dell 14 Premium. You can extrapolate. From there, Dell announced some new Pro and Pro Max business laptops, as well as a few updated Insperons, now simply called Dell or Dell Plus, and these will be launching in the next few months. On the Alienware side, things are a little more exciting. It’s also changing its PC name and returning to the Area 51 branding with a new full-size tower with the latest Nvidia graphics and up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 285. KCPU and 16 and 18 inch laptops and these will also be equipped with the latest Nvidia graphics and up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 275 HX CPU. Look for them to launch sometime in the first quarter. Coming to Lenovo, the computer announcements are mostly straightforward updates. For example, Lenovo’s dual-display laptop, the Yoga Book 9 I, now features larger 14-inch OLED displays instead of 13.3 inches, a sturdier stand, and the latest Intel Core Ultra 7 processor. The Premium Yoga 9 I 2 and 1 also gets a processor refresh and is an Aura edition, which basically means it’s an AIPC and has smarter software and access to premium support. Then there’s the new Yoga Slim 9 I, a 14-inch premium laptop with a stunning new glass finish on the lid and like the other two versions. Latest Core Ultra chips. Lenovo also announced four new tablets, starting with a 10-inch general-purpose Lenovo Tab. Then there’s the more premium 12.7-inch Idea Tab Pro, which gives you a more premium entertainment and productivity experience, along with the more creatively focused 12.7-inch Yoga Tab Plus. Rounding out the tablet is the Legion Tab, an 8.8-inch tablet with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, all around an 8.8-inch 2.5K Display built around a refresh rate of 165 Hz. There’s also a new Legion gaming laptop, the Legion Pro 7i, a 16-incher with up to Intel Core Ultra 9, next-gen Nvidia graphics, and some nice lighting around the rear vents up front. Next up are HP and some new AI PCs for consumers and. From a business perspective, in this video we’re only focusing on consumer PCs like the HP Omni Studio X all-in-one desktop and the new Omni desktop towers. HP has made some excellent all-in-ones in the past and this OmniStudio X looks to continue that streak. It comes in 27 and 31.5-inch sizes and features Intel Core Ultraprocessors, up to 32GB of memory, and Intel Art graphics. The new Omni table towers feature a beautiful wood-like finish on the front, making them look more like furniture and offering numerous configuration options, including discrete and video graphics. For gaming, there’s the new Oman Max 16 notebook, which comes with an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 375 or Intel Core Ultra 9275 HX processor. Next-generation video graphics, 64 GB of memory and 2 terabytes of storage. There are 3 display options, including a 2.5K OLED with a variable refresh rate from 48 to 240 Hz. HP also showed off a compact 16-liter Oman gaming tower with Intel or AMD CPUs and GPUs up to an AMD Radeon RX 7600 or. Nvidia RTX 4060 TI. Finally, let’s take a look at what Aus has to offer. Mostly it was a whole lot of Vivo books in a wide variety of configurations with Intel, AMD and Q-Qualcomm processors in 14 and 16-inch sizes and a mix of plastic or plastic and metal. Body. What’s available will vary by region, but if you’re looking for a mid-range AIPC from ASU, you have plenty of options this year. The most interesting consumer laptop announcement from them, however, is the Zenbook A14, a 14-inch OLED Copilot Plus PC that weighs less than 1kg and runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon X processor. The case is made from the company’s aluminum, a metal with a smooth, ceramic-like surface. On the ROG side, Asus is essentially updating its core Zephyrus, Strix and Strict Scar lines with new processors, graphics and cooling, as well as updated lighting. The Strix and Strict Scar will be available in 16 and 18-inch sizes, feature NextGen Intel C GPUs in Nvidia GPUs, and better cooling. In fact, everything is better cooled. The Zephyrus will be available in 14- and 16-inch models and will be Co-Pilot Plus PCs running on the latest AMD chips with Nvidia graphics. Then there’s the return of the company’s gaming tablet PC, the Flow Z13. It has been completely redesigned and is based on an AMD Strix Halo chip and a 13.4-inch 2.5K touchscreen. There is also a new mobile external Thunderbolt XG GPU with NextGen Nvidia graphics. The whole thing is rounded off by an Intel-based gaming desktop, the G700, designed and built by Republic of Gamers. So that’s a tour of many of the PCs announced at CES 2025.
