Canada: Justin Trudeau resigns

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who is at his worst in the polls, announced his resignation on Monday after the country endured weeks of political crisis that was recently exacerbated by Donald Trump’s economic threats.

Almost ten years after coming to power, 53-year-old Justin Trudeau was under pressure from the opposition, but also from many figures in his party who were worried about the upcoming general election.

“I intend to step down as party leader and prime minister once the party has elected its next leader.”he told the press in the capital Ottawa.

The next leader of the Liberal Party (center-left) will automatically become the new Prime Minister of Canada and at the same time Parliament will be suspended until March 24th.
