CAF postpones CHAN to August 2025 due to infrastructure delays

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced on Tuesday the postponement of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) to August 2025.

The tournament was originally planned for February 1st to 28th, 2024 in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, but is now scheduled to take place at a later date.

CAF expressed satisfaction with the significant progress made in the host countries, particularly in the construction and modernization of stadiums, training facilities, hotels, hospitals and other key infrastructure required for the successful organization of the tournament.

However, CAF also noted that technical and infrastructure experts, including those in host countries, need additional time to ensure that all facilities meet the necessary standards to successfully host CHAN.

CAF confirmed that the tournament draw will take place this Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. local time in Nairobi. The top teams in the draw include reigning champions Senegal and two-time winners Morocco. The exact start date for the 2024 CAF TotalEnergies Africa Nations Championship, now scheduled for August 2025, will be announced by CAF “in due course,” the statement said.
