Justin Kluivert says Bournemouth are dreaming of the European Championships after their stunning hat-trick in a 4-1 win at Newcastle.

The Dutch striker was the star of a brilliant performance at St James’ Park which took the Cherries to sixth place in the Premier League.

Andoni Iraola’s men have surprisingly been in the top half for most of the season and are currently unbeaten in 11 games.

But for Kluivert their form is no surprise and says the European Championships were always the Cherries’ goal.

He told TNT Sports: “This feels great. We know how difficult it is to play here. To come here with a lot of injuries and dominate like that – hats off to the team.

“I want to help my team and be important for the club. Our run is beautiful and we showed that we are here to make an impression.

“At the start of the season we have a lot of ambitious players in the team, you want to play in Europe and we’re showing that.”

“Why not dream big, then we never know where we might end up. The Champions League would be very tough, but who knows?”

Bournemouth were deserved winners at St James’ Park, overwhelming the hosts who had won their last nine games in all competitions.

Antoine Semenyo, who also stood out, added to Premier Legaue Productions: “It was a crazy performance from us.

“We just knew we had to get the pressing right and if we did that we would get chances and as you could see with some of the goals we got the pressing right and got the three points.”

“We knew they had moments where they would stay behind and we wanted to eliminate the back four. As soon as the goalkeeper fit into the central defense, that was the trigger for us and it worked perfectly.

“Justin’s finishes were special. He is a top player for us. It was a well-deserved hat-trick.”

Their 11-game unbeaten streak is even more impressive considering the large number of injuries they are currently dealing with, with both Evanilson and Enes Unal recently ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Semenyo added: “It’s all a state of mind. Our mindset is just so strong, we are mentally strong. We go through all these difficult moments with injuries, but we know that together we can do it and no one can tell us otherwise.

“We take it game by game and don’t put any pressure on ourselves.”
