The explosion takes place in the middle of the widespread public anger about a disaster of 2023, Greece’s worst, in which 57 people were killed and dozens more injured when a freight train and a passenger train in opposite directions were accidentally laid on the same route.
According to the local media, a newspaper and a news website received an anonymous call shortly before the explosion on Friday, whereby the callers warn that a bomb had been planted outside the railway company’s offices and would explode within about 40 minutes.
In a statement, Hellenic Train said that the explosion was “very close to the central offices” and the explosion had only caused limited damage and no injuries to employees or passers -by.
The authorities had acted immediately after receiving information about the warning call and that the company worked fully with the authorities and guaranteed the security of its employees.
The police cordoned off the site along a large Avenue in the Greek capital and kept the residents and tourists from the building in an area with several bars and restaurants. Officers at the crime scene said that a bag was placed near the Hellenic train building in the Syngrou Avenue with an explosive device near the Hellenic train building.
