Mexican authorities announced Friday the discovery of bodies and remains in the northwestern state of Sinaloa, an area where a search is underway for 10 missing workers at a Canadian gold and silver mine.
The statement from Mexico’s attorney general’s office did not say how many bodies or remains were found, but said one of the bodies had “characteristics of one of the people reported missing.”
The office also reported the arrests of four people believed to be connected to the workers’ disappearance.

The Sinaloa state prosecutor’s office said the remains were found in the community of El Verde, Concordia Parish, where the mine is located.
In the same area, the Navy reported the dismantling of ten camps that had been used by cartel members.
The mountainous region is one of several points in the state where a turf war between two rival factions of the Sinaloa Cartel has been raging for more than a year.
On January 28, Vancouver-based mining company Vizsla Silver reported the kidnapping of 10 people from its facilities. It said it had alerted authorities and that its crisis management and security teams were involved in the search.
The company did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment late Friday.
The federal government increased the number of troops stationed in the state and launched an operation to search for the workers.
In Mexico, mines have been the target of organized crime on several occasions, as cartels saw opportunities to extort or even sell valuable ore themselves.
