To test portable air conditioning systems, we heat an air -conditioned room to 92 degrees. After the room reached 92 degrees, we switch off the heat and switch on the portable alternating current unit with a medium fan speed and a defined temperature of 68 degrees. We carry out the device for 2 hours and 30 minutes and repeat the same test twice per alternating current unit. We then use the data collected during the tests to measure two things:
- How consistently the portable air conditioning system keeps the space within 5% of 68 degrees
- How consistently the space was held within 5% of the individual lowest temperature of the alternating current unit
As soon as we have this information, we compare the results across the units to see the defined temperature for the longest period. We also look at which units have maintained their individual lowest temperature the longest. We did this, so that if a device did not reach 68 degrees in the assigned time, we were still able to track how consistently the lowest temperature that it reached. The higher the percentage, the better the unit.
When considering the performance, it is important to note that the units we tested have no identical specifications, so that direct performance comparison are not the only thing we consider in our list of the best portable climate systems. We also consider the functions and other options of a device in relation to the price and the specifications to determine the total value.
We also do not attract any direct performance comparisons if we examine units with very different sizes and skills, for example the 12,000-Mavea MAP14HS1TBL compared to the 5,500-frigidaire FHPC082AC1. For this reason, we compared the performance results in two groups based on the cover area. In particular, we have the models with smaller Midea, Black+Decker, Frigidaire, whirlpool and GE (with which all cover areas of up to 350 square foot) and the models with larger Black+Decker, Whynamy, Haier, LG and Midea (models (models (models Larger Black+Decker, Haier, Haier, LG) (Midea (Midea) (Midea (Midea) compared.
