The electric toothbrushes in this section weren’t my favorites, but they have some great features that are worth mentioning. One of these might be the right choice for you, so it was worth including it here.
Philips Sonicare for Kids Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush
From 3 years Philips Sonicare for children is just as great as the other Sonicare models from Philips. The electric brush has two different modes and a brush timer and is available in two different colors. Each box also contains stickers to decorate the handle. It works very similarly to the Oral-B Kid electric toothbrush, but the brush head vibrates instead of oscillating.
I noticed that the handle is heavier and about an inch longer than the Oral-B Kid Color Changing Toothbrush. The brush head is a smaller version of the Philips Sonicare Prestige, but is still almost three times longer than the Oral-B Kid brush head. What’s special about the Sonicare for Kids brush is that it has Bluetooth capabilities that allow it to connect to a smartphone app. I think the app is one of the best; It has instructional videos and a tracking system that allows parents to track their children’s brushing behavior.
Quip electric toothbrush
The Quip brush head is very close to the size of a manual toothbrush head. The trick is simple in every way: It has a speed and a two-minute timer that sounds every 30 seconds and turns off when the time is up. That’s it. There is no app, charger or cable. This electric toothbrush is powered by a AAA battery in the handle and the charging time is three months.
I gave the title of “Best Battery Operated Electric Toothbrush” to Colgate’s Hum rather than the Quip because I didn’t like the toothbrush’s brush head. Yes, it’s similar to a manual toothbrush, but I found it difficult to reach around my mouth with. I also noticed that Quip’s motor isn’t very powerful compared to models from Sonicare or Oral-B. To me it felt like a manual cleaning. I didn’t like it, but others might not mind. If you’re looking for a smart electric toothbrush without Bluetooth or an app, the Quip might be the right choice.
CariPro electric toothbrush
The CariPro is a good brush, but it doesn’t compare to the others on this list. The brush head vibrates and the top and bottom of the brush bulge outward.
My gums and teeth felt sensitive after using CariPro, but I tend to experience tooth sensitivity. It’s hard to tell if it was the brush bristles or the way the brush head was curved outwards. If you have sensitive gums, note that the brush has five settings, one of which is sensitive. There’s something good about that: I feel like the CariPro cleaned my mouth well.
Y brush
The Y-Brush made a splash and sparked interest at CES in 2017 and has returned to CES year after year. The strange, Y-shaped brush claims it can brush all your teeth in just 10 seconds. After applying the toothpaste directly to the brush, the entire Y-Brush goes into your mouth. You then have to bite and press the button to activate the gentle vibrations. After five seconds you can switch to your lower bit.
Not only did I find that the Y brush didn’t clean my teeth, but the vibrations hurt my head. It was an unpleasant experience with just toothpaste covering my teeth. The concept of this brush is fun and interesting. It might be right for you if you’re tired of regular electric toothbrushes.
Oral-B Pro 500 Precision Clean
My experience with the Oral-B Pro 500 Precision Clean brush compared to some others in the same price range. It has a cleaning mode and the brush head oscillates and rotates with a two-minute timer. The brush will notify you when you’re finished. This simple Oral-B brush is simple and has no special technology or paired apps.
Of all the Oral-B brushes I tested with rotating spinning heads, I liked this one the least. It wasn’t as powerful as the others and after a few uses I wondered if I needed a new brush head. I think this brush is perfect for someone trying an electric toothbrush for the first time. It’s easy and very affordable. Personally, I would go with the Oral-B Pro 1000, but this Pro 500 is a good budget option.
