Brendan Rodgers insisted that Celtic’s heartbreaking overall defeat against Bayern Munich was not what his site deserved.

He added: “I think our European credibility was restored this season. I think we built it up from last year, this is my food from this season.”

McGregor: “Cruellest” night in a Celtic shirt
Captain Callum McGregor said that late heartache was difficult to bear, but praised the performance of his teammates to carry out an almost perfect game plan.
He said to Prime Video Sport: “Probably one of the cruelest (results of a Celtic jersey), the performance of the players, gave them over everything and pushed a really good Bavarian page on the way.
“Sometimes football is cruel and they don’t understand what they deserve, but I have to say I am so proud of the players and the way they played and dealt with.
“We come from this field without regret. It’s a real, real win, but I think we can be proud of ourselves.
“It was set up for us to try and nod the next, and even if we had to go to additional time, we also introduced ourselves.
“I think everyone who looks at this football game tonight would see a really good Celtic team.”
