Barcelona will win La Liga and I will sign a long-term contract, predicts the prodigy
Lamine Yamal has said Barcelona will “of course” win La Liga despite their miserable form, adding that he expects to sign new terms at the club “soon”.
After winning Euro 2024 with Spain the day after his 17th birthday in July, Yamal, whose current contract runs until 2026, had a huge influence as Barca took a clear lead at the top of the table at the start of his first season under the German coach Hansi Flick.
After four defeats and one win in seven league games, they are five points behind league leaders Real Madrid and three behind Atlético Madrid. This means they have picked up a single point in the three league games that Yamal missed due to an ankle injury.
“Barca is the club of my life,” Yamal told CNN. “I don’t know when (I will sign a new contract), but I believe it will be soon. I hope to extend my contract and stay with them as long as possible. I want to play in the Spanish league. I want to extend my contract and I will do that.”

Yamal’s total of nine assists this season is three more than his teammate Raphinha, the player who has assisted the second-most goals in Spain.
Only Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (13) and Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka (10) have more assists in Europe’s five major leagues, while Yamal also scored five goals, although he has not scored since Barca’s 4-0 win in Madrid on October 26th.
Barca’s tally of 15 points from six games in the Champions League league phase has taken them to second place behind Liverpool and on course for an automatic place in the knockout rounds, and Yamal believes Flick’s side can have the “best year of our lives” by going further wins several trophies during the season.
“Hansi is a different coach – the style of play is different,” Yamal said of the former Germany and Bayern Munich coach, who is in his first job outside his home country.

Barcelona vs Athletic Bilbao
Flick hopes Yamal will return in the game against Athletic Bilbao Spanish Super Cup Semi-final at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah on Wednesday (19:00 GMT).
If Barca win, they will face Real Madrid or Mallorca in the final on Sunday (7 p.m.) at the same venue.
Their next home game will be at home against Real Betis in the Copa del Rey round of 16 on January 15th.
