Barcelona reached the Spanish Super Cup final after beating Athletic Club 2-0 at the King Abdullah Sport City in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.

Goals from Gavi and Lamine Yamal secured Barca’s place in Sunday’s final, while Athletic had two goals disallowed for offside in the final ten minutes.

The Catalan club received a boost before kick-off with news that players Dani Olmo and Pau Victor had been granted temporary player registration by Spain’s sports council, the Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD).

Manager Hansi Flick called the verdict “the right decision” and his side got off to the best start in Jeddah when Gavi opened the scoring just after quarter of an hour.

Athletic got into the game but Flick’s side doubled their lead shortly after the break when Yamal got on the scoresheet and put Barcelona in a commanding position.

Bilbao then appeared to have equalized in the 82nd minute through Oscar de Marcos, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Four minutes later, Inaki Williams grabbed Frenkie de Jong’s errant back pass and hit the net, but this attempt was also disallowed by the VAR.

Barcelona will find out their opponents for Sunday’s showdown, also at the King Abdullah Sport City, when Real Madrid play Mallorca on Thursday.
