A painting by Street Artist Banksy with an environmental message and an estimate of up to £ 5 million ($ 6.3 million) increases to auction, with some of the proceeds to help the victims of the forest fires of Los Angeles.

Sotheby’s auction house said on Tuesday that “crude oil (Vettriano)” was sold on March 4 by Sotheby’s in London by the collection of Mark Hoppus, bassist with the Californian skate punk band Blink-182, the Banksy as a related spirit views.

Hoppus said he was attracted to subversion, humor and intelligence of Banksy’s work and the similarities between “skateboarding, punk rock and art”.

“I have the feeling that Street Art and Punk rock have the same core,” said Hoppus. “The exuberant and overlooked to make their own reality.

“Rohöl (Vettriano)” is part of a works from 2005, in which Banksy turned famous paintings Satirisch – Vincent van Gogh’s “Sunflowers” and the Diner window in Edward Hopper’s “Nighthawks” shattered. The work under the hammer is based on “The Singing Butler”, a painting by the Scottish artist Jack Vettriano, which shows a couple in evening dress who dance on the beach, while servants lend out shields. Banksy has added a falling oil lining and two figures to drag a barrel of poisonous waste.

Hoppus said he would use the proceeds of the sale to buy work from upcoming artists. Some will go to the California Fire Foundation, the Los Angeles children’s hospital and the Cedars Sinai Hematology Oncology Research,

Banksy, who has never confirmed his full identity, began his career spray building in Bristol, England, and has become one of the most famous artists in the world. His mischievous and often satirical pictures include two male police officers who kiss, armed turmoil with yellow smiley faces and a chimpanzee with a sign with the words: “Laugh now, but one day I will be responsible.”

Some of his works were sold for several million at an auction. The record is almost £ 18.6 million (at that time 25.4 million US is a shredder hidden in the framework.
