I am able to make longer trips as long as I don’t exaggerate the intensity. I think what went wrong, which led to my latest sciatica flare, was that I had combined long trips with hard riding, including sprints and intervals on the same day. Now I keep the pace “lively, but convenient” for the longer trips and only make more intensive trips on shorter trips. So far, so good!
I was relatively easy last Saturday and yesterday over three hours and it felt great. Yesterday was my group trip, we went west of Morgan Hill around Chesbro and Uvas reservoirs. This included a few steep climbs, but I was able to control the efforts with the electrical support of my back. Lately I have held shorter trips on my upright trips, but I think my back is safe enough to continue this bike.
