The 2018 thriller by director Paul Feig “a easier falling” feels when he came out for a lifetime. In a way, it did. The film, in which Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively played the leading role, was a theatrical hit before the pandemic completely changed the cinema as we know it. Now it is a landscape dominated by streaming. Something ironic has the prevalence of streaming allowed celebration to combine Kendrick again and alive for a sequelSeven years later for a streamer, especially Amazon Prime Video. For both good and worse things, “another easier” is a really decadent, much stupid, still sexy affair. In a way, it is the perfect streaming film.
The sequel takes off several years after the events of the first film and concentrates on Stephanie Smothers (Kendrick), which is unexpectedly visited by her old friend Emily Nelson (Blake Lively) after the disappointment from prison. They unite on the beautiful island of Capri, Italy, for Emily’s extravagant wedding with a rich Italian businessman, with Stephanie serving as a maid of honor. Stephanie is suspicious of Emily’s motivations, but still marks with it to sell her book about her earlier encounter. Of course, murder and intrigue follow, while this wedding unfolds and Stephanie and Emily put back into a still twisted series of events.
It wouldn’t be fair To name “a simple favor” a completely grounded film picture. It is certainly wasteful and the secret is in a way that only one film could really allow. Nevertheless, it has a grounded quality and it is probably the most serious film so far. With “another simple favor”, Feig leaves the ground to make something lots of camps and arganic ones. The mileage will depend on how attractive it is, but it certainly feels like popcorn entertainment that has been developed for streaming era.
Paul Feig is exaggerated for this simple reunion
Credit where loan is due, it is not as if a warehouse or silliness is unintentional. It is obvious from the jump that Feig wanted to make a little more exaggerated. It’s a kind of bold step. It would have been very easy to do exactly the same. After all, it worked out well enough the first time, right?
It is certainly up for debate whether the end product is just as satisfactory or as airtight. “Another easier” is a lot more film, so much is undeniable. If the first film was a steak and potato meal in a beautiful restaurant, this is an all-you-can-eat dessert that is packed with chic sweets. Is one better than the other? Nutritional, yes. But both taste good.
It is not quite as big as “Gremlins 2: The New Batch” was a jump to the tone Compared to its predecessor, but it is certainly a jump. Feig has absolutely fun and it would be difficult to accuse this of being a boring film. It is extravagant, ridiculous and oversetted with more layers than an onion. It dances on the razor of a razor to jump the shark. In the meantime, it feels as if cowardly knows that, which is why it doesn’t fall apart. There is confidence in chaos.
Another easier is supported by the two lead performances
If this film has a strength, it is undoubtedly his two leads. Anna Kendrick has from her directorial debut “Ms. of the Hour”. In the years since the first film, she has grown a lot as a performer and filmmaker. Nevertheless, she steps back in Stephanie’s shoes quite comfortably and goes where this crazy script leads without skipping. But this is a chemical piece, and Stephanie is not nearly as convincing as with Emily.
For this purpose, Blake Lively seems like the always mysterious, brave and sexy emily. Lively, who gives the success of last year’s “IT Ends with Us”, It’s full of confidence, which works perfectly with the Bonkers direction of history. From a chemical point of view? An oil and water that only works is going on between Kendrick and Lively.
But if there is an outstanding role here, it is lively that makes this absurd socialite sing. We should hate them, but somehow you love them. One thing that coward knows how to do it is poured. From Henry Golding and several other important actors to new, welcome additions, such as the always welcome Allison Janney, it is difficult to argue against the ensemble.
This film is in really wild directions and it is not quite as polished as its predecessor. At the same time, it feels what came before. It certainly does not reveal the characters or the world that cowardly built up. There is nothing worse than a boring sequel, and even if it is not just airtight, this is anything but boring. There is something to say in a time of paint-by-numbers franchise.
“Another easier” will come to Prime video on May 1, 2025.
