Ange and Tottenham are cup-headed as the Australian manager admits the FA Cup is still “a very important part of the calendar”.

Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou is looking forward to facing National League side Tamworth in the FA Cup this weekend.

Spurs travel to the lowest placed team in the competition and face one of the biggest upsets in the competition’s history.

But despite playing against much weaker opposition than the team they beat on Wednesday, Postecoglou admits he cannot rotate too often and is taking the FA Cup very seriously.

Speaking to the media, he said: “I still think it’s a really important competition. It covers pretty much all levels of football and there are always great storylines.

“There have already been stories like this in the first rounds of the cup and we are facing a team that has survived the first rounds.

“I still think the last day of the cup is an important day in the global football calendar. In my opinion it is a really important tournament that maintains the right traditions.

“In my opinion it is definitely a very important part of the calendar.”

“I have no doubt about the attitude of the players. All the boys have a great understanding that every game is important. We go into Sunday’s game with the same mindset: making sure we do things we can control and putting a lot of emphasis on things we do really well.

“There are always challenges out there. I’m sure Tamworth will think it’s a great opportunity for them and we need to be ready for it.”

Spurs move from one end of the football pyramid to the other in a matter of days.

During the week they beat Liverpool 1-0 in the first leg of the League Cup semi-final, handing Arne Slot his first away defeat of the season.

Now they have to get used to a team looking to create a lasting memory by knocking out a Premier League giant.

Postecoglou added: “They are not multimillion-dollar players.” They are people who are very understanding. They are good people. Most of them came from places like that, some even worse.

“They will go there and respect the fact that Tamworth will be preparing for probably the biggest game of their lives. And I am sure that they will do their best to create an atmosphere in which they will be proud of their grounds and their facility.

“I don’t think that’s a problem for us. It’s important for us to prepare for an important cup game.”
