The British manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) announced the temporary suspension of its exports to the USA on Saturday in response to implementation by Washington via new customs tasks to import cars.
In a statement, JLR said that this “break” aims to enable new commercial conditions. Although the United States are a key market for their luxury brands, the group wanted to take short-term measures while developing their medium and long-term strategy.
Since April 3, a tax of 25 % has been in place for vehicles that are imported into the USA. Further tasks on auto spare parts are expected next month as part of a protectionist measures, which has been announced by US President Donald Trump.
In view of these decisions, London has started consultations with British companies on possible retaliation. Prime Minister Keir Starrer has to discuss this weekend with other world leaders from a coordinated answer and claim to privileged the path of dialogue with Washington.
