Amazigh language: More than 3,000 primary school teachers in bilingual classes
More than 3,000 primary school teachers in bilingual classes will benefit from training to accelerate the generalization of teaching the Amazigh language, Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports Mohamed Saad Berrada announced in Rabat on Monday.
In response to an oral question from the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS) in the House of Representatives on “promoting the teaching of the Amazigh language and its teachers,” the minister stated that a total of 650,936 students are currently taking Amazigh classes in 3,400 primary schools.
This figure represents a coverage rate of 40% in all primary education institutions, the government official said, adding that the number of teachers providing Amazigh lessons stands at 3,400.
He recalled that the number of Amazigh language teachers increased from 200 in 2021 to 600 in 2022 and then to 1,200 the following year to reach 1,850 in 2024.
