The Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, led the Board of Directors of the Hydraulic Basin Agency in Al Hceima last Monday and brought together regional and parliamentary chosen officials.
The minister emphasized the alarming climate situation, which was characterized by seven years of drought and its effects on water resources.
For the hydrological year 2023-2024, the region recorded a precipitation deficit of 3.2 %, which led to a reduction of 52 % of the water absorption in the dams.
Nizar Baraka presented several projects to relieve water stress, e.g. B. the transmission of water between insulation, the construction of new dams and the installation of a desalination station in Tangier.
He emphasized how important it is to raise public awareness of the water management and announced the acceptance of several conventions. They will mainly refer to the flood protection, the knowledge of the detection and expansion of the groundwater or even to the implementation of intelligent measuring systems to monitor the taxes of these water resources.
In addition, the areas of meteorology, fluid renovation and reuse of treated wastewater are also affected.
