Bengal opener Abhimanyu Easwaran will be out for a few weeks due to a hairline fracture in his finger, according to The Times of India. Easwaran, who was part of the Indian squad during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia but did not play a Test, has injured the middle finger of his right hand.
India suffered a 3-1 defeat against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Among others, Abhimanyu Easwaran had to take a break without taking part in any of the five tests despite being part of the squad. The Bengal opener, known for his consistent performances for India A teams, sustained the injury during a club match.

“Yes, he sustained a hairline fracture on the middle finger of his right hand during a club match,” a BCCI source told The Times of India.
Bengal, playing in Elite Group C, will play their next match against Haryana in the second leg of the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy starting from Thursday, January 23. Bengal are currently third in the group with 14 points after five games..

Former cricketer Aakash Chopra expressed doubts about Abhimanyu Easwaran’s future as a Test opener for India. In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Chopra discussed potential candidates for India’s Test plans and questioned whether Easwaran is still in the shortlist.
“During the BGT there were two local players in the team, but they were not given a single chance. One was Abhimanyu Easwaran and the second was Sarfaraz Khan. They saw Abhimanyu Easwaran in the India A games. They didn’t like him, and he threw him away,” Chopra said.
“He was declared a failure without being given a chance, which is a little sad but that is the reality. Abhimanyu Easwaran is 29 years old. I don’t know whether the Indian team will look at him again or not.” “Let’s be honest, if Rohit Sharma leaves, an opener is needed,” the former Indian batsman added.
