A hunter in Virginia died after a bear was shot in a tree and fell on him: authorities
A Virginia man was killed when a bear shot out of a tree by one of his hunting partners fell on him, state wildlife officials said.
The incident occurred on Dec. 9 in Lunenburg County, Virginia, according to a statement from the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources.
A hunting group was chasing the bear when it ran into a tree.
As the group began to retreat from the tree, one of the hunters shot at the bear, which fell onto another hunter standing about 10 feet from the base of the tree.

One person in the group administered first aid before Harvey was taken to two different hospitals.
But the victim, identified as Lester C. Harvey, 58, of Phenix, VirginiaHe died from his injuries on Friday, the wildlife agency said.
An obituary for Harvey states that he leaves behind a wife, five children and eight grandchildren. He was a self-employed contractor and an avid nature lover.

The following year, another man in North Carolina was injured after his hunting partner shot a bear in a tree. The animal fell from the tree and began to bite the victim. The man and the bear then fell off a cliff.
The victim in North Carolina was taken to a hospital for his injuries, but the bear was later found dead.
