What is private space?

Private Space is Android 15’s answer to keeping your personal data safe sensitive apps away from prying eyes. Think of it like a secret vault in your phone where you can store apps you’d prefer to keep private, whether they’re professional, financial, or just your pleasure games.

Unlike hiding apps – usually by moving them to a folder or using a third-party launcher, which still leaves them accessible from the app drawer – Private Space creates a separate, secure space on your phone that is completely isolated. Only you can access it with a unique passcode or biometric authentication to ensure your private content remains truly private.

What you need

You can use Private Space if:

• Your device is running Android 15 or higher.
• Your device has more than 6 GB of RAM.
• Your device is not managed by an organization.
• There is no supervised account logged into the main area.

WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)?

You cannot use Private Space if:

• It is disabled by the device manufacturer or company administrator.
• It’s in a secondary user profile.
• Your device has more than four user profiles.

Note: You can only use Private Space as the primary user of the device, not as a guest or secondary user. Consider creating a dedicated one Google account for your private area. This prevents private data such as notifications and files from being viewed outside of the private area.

Private Space is available on devices running Android 15. From now on this includes:

• Knock Software updates.
• Then click System updates.
• If available, tap “Download and install.”

• Open that Settings app.
• Scroll to “Security and privacy.”
• Tap “Private room.”
• Verify your identity Use your device’s unlocking method.
• Tap “Set up” Button.
• Enter yours Google account credentials.

• Access the private area by scrolling to at the bottom of your app drawer.
• Tap Lock icon to unlock it.
• You will be asked to enter your password Passcode or use biometric authentication.
• To move apps to the private area, Long press an app in your main drawer.
• Knock Install privately.
• Confirm your decision by clicking Install.

• You can also click Installwhere you will see this Plus sign in black circleto install apps directly from Google Play into private space.
• Just click app You want to install in Private Space.
• Then click Install again.
• Go back to Private spaceand you will see the app installed there.
