“I feel like I’m failing at something that should be easy.”


I want to share with you something a customer recently said to me because I think a lot of people feel this way in silence:

“I had a hard time lose weight my entire adult life. I feel like I’m failing at something that should be easy.”

If you’ve ever struggled to get in shape, you may know the same feeling.

It can creep in and give the whole thing a personal feel.

How You are the problem. For example, “If only I had more willpower,” things would be better.

But here’s the thing:

You don’t fail at something that should be easy.

They strive to do something that is essentially difficult for everyone.

And this distinction makes a big difference.

The disproportion

When you zoom out and look at the actual evidence, it’s not easy to get into shape.

Don’t lose weight.

Don’t build muscles.

Don’t stick to habits.

Why? Because we do all of this in a system that stacks the deck:

And that’s just ours external Environment.

If we look under the hood, every person has different levels of Dining noise, Joy in movementinjury history etc.

We don’t all play on a level playing field – and those playing fields have been challenging from the start!

I don’t say any of this to make you feel hopeless.

Quite the opposite:

Only by acknowledging the very real constraints can we develop a plan to get ourselves out of trouble.

Here’s a simple two-step approach to help you achieve just that.

Step 1: Collect evidence

An important part of rewriting the narrative is gathering evidence to the contrary.

That you are the type of person who shows up.

Take a few moments each day to highlight whenever you take action that aligns with your goals.

✅ If you a short training instead of a crazy day of no training

✅ If you build one balanced plate for dinner

✅ If you add a few more reps to your workout

Write it down in a notebook. Text a friend. Throw in a marble Glass great.

This is one of our most critical aspects Coaching program.

People need to see signs of progress. They need reassurance that what they are doing is working.

This starts by highlighting the actions you take that will move you closer to your goals.

From there we can narrow down the target.

Step 2: Make the target smaller

When you feel stuck and like nothing is working, it’s natural to want to try to make a change everything at once!

I encourage you to resist this urge.

Get more instead laser focused.

I have made the most progress in my 15 years as a coach reducing the number of things Someone has to be worried. They stop adding to their to-do list.

Because focus creates consistency.

If you know what the most important goal for the day is, you’re much more likely to tackle it than if you have a long list of ten things that constantly seem important to you.

If they are all most important, then none of them are important.

Narrowing your focus not only improves consistency and keeps you from becoming overwhelmed, but you also learn what really drives you.

You don’t have to guess whether something works or not – you’ve done it consistently and can see the results for yourself!

So here is the thought for you to practice:

Instead of:

“I’m failing at something that should be easy.”

Attempt:

“I strive to do something that’s hard for almost everyone — and I still show up.”

This reformulation is not fluffy.

It’s practical.

It gets you out of shame and into solving problems. It lets you see your progress Are Manufacturing. And it creates space for deciding what your next step actually is.

And that’s the whole game:

Turn up.

Collect evidence.

Narrow the focus.

Repeat.

If you do this long enough, the identity you build becomes what drives you forward.
