Rabat-Estland has confirmed its support for Morocco’s autonomy plan for the Sahara and described him as a “serious and credible basis” for solving the long-term dispute.
The announcement took place in Tallinn when visiting the Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, the first visit to a Moroccan Foreign Minister in Estonia.
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna gave the explanation during a joint press conference with Bourita. He also encouraged other governments to take the same position to support the Morocco plan.
During the talks, Estonia Praised Morocco’s leadership and role in promoting peace, stability and development in the region. Tsahkna noticed how important his country is to strengthen relationships with Morocco.
Both ministers confirmed their common wish to increase the partnership between Estonia and Morocco in several key areas, including the digital sector and renewable energies. They also encouraged companies in both countries to explore new economic opportunities and organize common forums to establish connections.
Tsahkna pointed to the Joint explanation Signed on October 21, 2024 in Rabat as a clear roadmap for expanding the cooperation between the two countries. The explanation welcomed Morocco’s political stability and the ambitious reforms of King Mohammed VI.
Estonia also praised Morocco’s regional efforts, especially initiatives under the direction of King Mohammed VI. This includes the royal initiative to grant Sahel countries access to the Atlantic Ocean, the process of African Atlantic and the Morocco-Nigeria Gas Pipeline Project.
Estonia showed interest in Morocco’s growing economic role in Africa and its location as a goal for the continent. The Estonian government hopes to start joint projects with Morocco in Africa, especially in digital and energy transitions.
The meeting in Tallinn showed that the joint commitment of both countries to strengthen the political dialogue, to increase trade and to collaboration with global questions of mutual concern.
