Rabat-OCP Nutricrops, a subsidiary of the OCP Group and leader in phosphate-based fertilizers, has announced an important investment to increase its fertilizer production capacity by 9 million tons by 2028.
The company will achieve this by developing two new mining and industrial centers: Mzinda in Youssoufia and Mescala in Essaouira.
“These facilities that integrate state-of-the-art technology and sustainability principles will increasingly increase the production capacity of the fertilizers by 2028 (in particular TSP and TSP+) by 9 million tons, with 4.5 million tons being expected to be expected in 2026.” OCP Nutricrops said in an explanation.
It also added that the project is part of the SP2M program that aims to significantly increase the production capacity of the OCP Group and at the same time to strengthen competitiveness and commitment to carbon neutrality by 2040.
The Mzinda and Mescala hubs represent a new generation of industrial locations that integrate the latest industry 5.0 technologies, artificial intelligence (AI) and automation.
The subsidiary found that they are designed to work entirely on renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power.
In addition, they will not use conventional water sources such as desalzing water and treated wastewater, which increased OCP OCP Nutricrops added the commitment of Nutricrops for sustainable and efficient production.
The subsidiary argued that these hubs adapt to market changes and that the value chain can optimize thanks to its modular and flexible design. This would ensure reliable supply of fertilizers that are tailored to the needs of farmers worldwide.
The facilities will concentrate on the production of high -quality phosphate fertilizers, in particular TSP and TSP and TSP+in order to create the growing global demand for sustainable fertilizers.
In addition to industrial production, OCP expects these hubs to help create a strong regional economic ecosystem. The subsidiary works with important partners such as Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), Innovx and Isa to develop local and international partnerships in Green Energy, Circular Economy and Industry 5.0. These efforts aim to strengthen local communities by improving the development of skills and promoting sustainable practices.
