Star Trek and Star Wars are two of the most famous science fi franchise companies, but they differ greatly from each other. The former is mainly about peaceful explorations and diplomacy, and the latter is mainly about heroic battles that determine the fate of the galaxy. Of course, the two franchises have some common things, including the fact that director JJ Abrams was led Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek in the darkness as well as The awakening of power And The climb of Skywalker. But the franchise companies were once closer … in particular the captain Kirk icon William Shatner, who had named aliens for the Star Wars Prequels after him.
William Shatner in Star Wars
Whether you believe it or not, we only know about it William Shatner Thanks to Seth McFarlane, almost part of the strongly missed Star Wars-Prequel trilogy. On the DVD special functions for Family facilities: It is a trap! There are recordings of McFarlane’s own interview with George Lucas, and the manufacturer admitted that he was made friends with Shatner (after meeting in a Mos Eisley-like bar in San Francisco called Hombres) A new hope. Finally the Trek icon said: “You have to name a character after me” … something that he had intended as a joke, but something for which Lucas was designed the Nemoidians The phantom threat.
Like so many Aliens In a distant galaxy, the Nemoidians were originally very different in both design and in name. In this interview with McFarlane, Lucas claims that he was considering whether he had named these networked aliens “S’Hatnarians” as a way to honor William Shatner’s request to have named a Star Wars character as a kind of to name. Such a homage would probably have been highly valued by Shatner, whose directorial debut (Star Trek V: The last border) had a planet called Sha Ka Ree as a homage Sean ConneryThe man who originally wanted to throw as Sybok, Spock’s Weirdo half-brother.
The creative process of George Lucas, however, is a bit like Jedi visions of the upcoming events: always on the move, the future is. Originally he was ready to make William Shatner part of the Star Wars universe by probably naming the main thing Foreigner Breed of The phantom threat “S’Hatnarians”, but he later changed his opinion and instead called her “Nemoidians”. It is not entirely clear why Lucas reversed the course, although we cannot help but ask himself whether someone told him that it would be difficult to sell toys from boys as half of his name.
Interestingly, while William Shatner never officially had to be part of the Star Wars universe, some some Star Trek The fans think that Lucas decided to honor the old colleague of the Kirk actor instead. When he said loudly, the first part of “Nemoidians” a sounds much Like “Nimoy”. For this reason, there are science fiction fans who think Spock Actor Leonard Nimoy, but this was never confirmed.
To be honest, as much as we like both William Shatner and Star Wars, George Lucas the most definitely I made the right call here. “Nemoidian” is not only a better name than “S’Hatnarian”, but it is also easier to take these crazy people with bug-Eyed more seriously if they don’t sound like aliens that are named after the Poop. And for all fans with a certain taste mode … we certainly did not need help to connect the prequels with crap, right?
