The DNG file usually also offers more latitude to lighten dark areas or to tighten the highlights in one picture, which makes it extremely versatile. So far, Apple’s color presets could be used when recording in Proraw, and I loved it. I have often shot photos in traffic in black and white mode in road traffic in style and then processed the raw file further.
I do a lot of street photography in black and white and I would love to make more flexibility to take proraw recordings in Monochrome.
If you now use the same black and white look, you only have to take pictures in Heif format, which eliminates the advantages of using Apple’s Proraw. With the iPhone 17 or even with the iPhone 16 as a software update, Apple wants to see how Apple creates an area of its own luts that can be applied directly to Prores video files on the iPhone.
