Kraven The Hunter concept art reveals a scrapped Venom crossover

Sony’s Spider-Man universe is basically dead, according to reports The studio is no longer interested in making films about Spider-Man without featuring the webslinger himselfwhose only appearance in these live-action films was a brief cameo in “Madame Web” as a newborn baby.

Of course it makes sense. This was without a doubt the most disastrous attempt at a cinematic universe since Universal’s Dark Universe. Almost none of Sony’s Spider-Man villain films have been loved by critics, audiences, or people in general. Admittedly, there are some fans of the “Venom” films who Do Experience some of the most bizarre and funniest moments in a superhero film trilogy in a long time – like Venom becoming a gay icon in a nightclub or Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock climbing into a lobster tank. Still, you can’t get very far with a universe that consists almost entirely of comic book villains who are violently transformed into anti-heroes.

We saw the effects of this in Kraven the Hunter, Sony’s final Spider-Man universe film. As our own Witney Seibold wrote in his review for /Film: The film “is an incoherent, incompetent gallery of tired superhero tropes hastily foisted on an audience the filmmakers know they’ve long since lost.” But at some point there was a discussion about giving this film some Venom lend.

While it’s likely the last time Sony will make a film about a Spider-Man character that doesn’t focus solely on Spider-Man, Kraven the Hunter is surprisingly the case has no connection to the other films. There isn’t even a post-credits scene touting a project that might leave audiences wanting more Kraven. That’s a shame, because it would make sense that the only reason to create a cinematic universe of Spider-Man villains without Peter Parker would be to then star them all in a big Sinister Six-style event crossover movie unite.

Unfortunately, that never happened, and aside from a brief and very stupid meeting between Morbius and Vulture, none of these protagonists ever met in a Sony Spider-Man Universe film. But it could have happened.

Concept artist Jules Darriulat shared a piece of concept art for Kraven the Hunter on Instagram that features Sergei Kravinoff meeting (so to speak) with Venom himself. The deleted scene shows Venom lying half-dead in a deserted wasteland, surrounded by other dead symbiotes. Considering how out of place this might have been in the main story of Kraven the Hunter, it’s more likely that the deleted scene was intended to be part of a post-credits scene or a nightmare sequence. Unfortunately, we may never know – let alone how Venom and Kraven meet.
