Tangier: Where is the renovation of the “Plaza Toro”?
The renovation work on the “Plaza Toro” in Tangier is progressing. According to the municipality, the project is 95% complete.
In an information note, the municipality points out that the renovation of Plaza Toro “an ambitious project that aims to highlight one of the most important historical monuments of the city of Tangier and make it a dynamic space for cultural, artistic and economic development.”.
“Given the importance that the Municipality of Tangier attaches to the cultural sector, the municipal council is actively participating in the implementation of this project by allocating a budget of 40 million DH out of a total budget of 70 million DH, thereby inaugurating its project.” supporting cultural heritage projects with a development policy dimension.she remarked.
Built in 1950, Plaza Toro, also known as the Tangier Arenas, has long been a venue for bull racing and bullfights. Despite the cessation of bullfighting shows in 1970, this arena has remained a part of the city’s memory and heritage.
The redevelopment project envisages transforming Plaza Toro into a multifunctional space with a capacity of 7,000 seats, including art exhibition halls, restaurant spaces, outdoor exhibition spaces and commercial spaces, as well as parking spaces, among other facilities.
