Dr. Umar, Yandy Smith and Mendeecees announce they have received citizenship in Ghana
On Monday, January 6th, Dr. Umar Instagram to share: photo and long message to his followers. Additionally, the image featured a picture of herself in traditional clothing with text that read in part: “…CITIANS OF GHANA 1.6.25”
In the title of his article, Dr. Umar his enthusiasm and gratitude.
“…Although I am by no means the first African from the diaspora to receive citizenship in the mother continent, I am perhaps the most prominent Pan-Africanist to do so so far in the 21st century. “Giving the Prince of Pan-Africanism legal citizenship in Africa completely and forever changes the narrative and direction of the global Pan-Africanism movement and will reinvigorate African consciousness worldwide,” he wrote in part.

Mendeecees then took to the platform to share a joint contribution with Yandy Smith. Additionally, the post included a photo of them smiling while donning traditional clothing.
“Today we are officially Ghanaians 🇬🇭 I am not African because I was born in Africa, but because Africa was born in me. 🇬🇭🇬🇭 ~ Kwame Nkrumah”, their shared caption read in part.
