Russia was hit by a massive outage in internet services on Monday, causing major disruptions in social networks, search engines and online banking services, the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technologies and Media (Roskomnadzor) said. The incident was attributed to a major outage in the network of an umbrella telecommunications operator.

According to Roskomnadzor, the accident was partially resolved as of 2:00 p.m. and internet services are being gradually restored. The outages were reported by several users via monitoring platforms such as Downdetector, which found widespread malfunctions across Google, Yandex, VKontakte, Rutube and T-Bank.

The main problems included very slow response times, frequent connection failures and the fact that many users were unable to access important online services. Banking and digital payment services, particularly T-Bank, were also severely affected, making financial transactions difficult for citizens and businesses.

Russian authorities assure that a full recovery is underway and preventive measures are being taken to prevent such an incident from occurring again.
