Samsung’s AI robot ball with projector is real and ready to roll in 2025
Samsung’s Ballie caused a stir at CES 2020 as a home robot concept that could one day roam your home. In 2024, Samsung brought it back to CES to show that it was Give the device a projector that can stream information and content on different surfaces. At CES 2025 In Las Vegas they are going one step further and announcing that they will actually deliver the rolling robot to the USA this year.
We don’t have a price or release time frame yet, but during a presentation the Wall EThe robot was able to share information about Las Vegas attractions, turn on lights and various smart home products using voice commands, and project the Uncharted movie on a nearby wall.
When Ballie was asked to “enlarge the screen,” the circular robot turned around and found another wall onto which it could project a larger image. The device has built-in speakers for sound.
In addition to voice control, Ballie also recognizes your “foot press” on a virtual button to complete a task, such as “OK” or “Show me more.” A series of cameras and sensors enable this virtual interaction. After being presented with two wines and asked which one would pair better with steak, Ballie was able to use her “foot presses” to ask more questions and ultimately make a recommendation.
Samsung isn’t the first company to try to bring robots into the home. In recent years, Amazon has been selling its products Astro home robot which is powered by Alexa and can move around the house, but today the $1,600 device is being sold by “exclusive invitation only.” LG has also showed ambitions for home robots shown at previous CES, but it’s unclear when or if these products will ever be available.
There are rumors that even Apple wants to expand into the smart home, according to a report last year, suggesting the company is looking into this area. More recent rumors claim this Apple could release more news about new smart home products as early as March.
